A “Dragons Love Tacos” Meditation for the Minis

Updated: Sep 30, 2020

One of my daughter’s favorite books is “Dragons Love Tacos,” by Adam Rubin. It’s a story about a bunch of dragons who like to eat tacos, but if they eat spicy foods like hot peppers on the tacos, they can’t control their fire. So I came up with a meditation for my daughter and my little students based on this fun kids book.

Have your kids come down to the mat, and sit either cross-legged or legs long in front of them. Then tell them to grab the long sides of their mats and bring them towards their body, like they’re folding a taco with their mats with their bodies inside. Now, tell them to close their eyes and remain calm for 30 seconds to a minute or else they’ll be too spicy, and the dragons will shoot fire uncontrollably. Can they be perfectly still? Can they be sweet like salsa on a taco? Or can they be cool like lettuce on a taco? If they’re all these yummy parts of a taco, then dragons will love them forever.

After a few moments of stillness, let’s find out if the dragons like these tacos!

Five...four...three...two...one...

Now, let go of your mat, bring your hands to your lap, and gently open your eyes.

Looks like the dragons love you so much, you’re too good to eat! They want to give you a hug instead.

Finish your meditation by taking your arms out in front of you, and give yourself a big hug. Namaste!
